Abstract

The learning process of young learners is a very crucial state. However, young learners have the tendency to feel intimidated when speaking to adults. Through this, teachers are expected to have teaching media that will help them to get closer with their students. Puppet is one of teaching media that teachers can use in the teaching process. It is also less intimidating for children. The researcher does not think that many teachers are using puppets again nowadays which she thinks is a pity. The objectives of this research are to understand the main struggles in using puppets as teaching media from the teachers’ stories, to understand how puppets are used as media in a young learners’ class and to find about the benefits of using puppets from the teachers’ perspectives. The method used was Narrative Inquiry. The instruments used were interview, phone voice recording, video recordings of past classes. Participants both faced a difficulty of students who tried to take away the puppets during the teaching process. They implemented puppets in a similar way. As both participants used puppets, the benefits that they felt was that puppets attract their students’ attention in different ways. Therefore, based on the findings that were found, the researcher gives some suggestion for teachers and future researchers.
