Abstract

English speaking skill is one of the skills, besides listening, reading or writing, needing attention. It is a skill which requires a lot of practices including for learners of English as foreign language. One of the method learners can use to sharpen their speaking skill is through debating. In debating, learners should deliver their ideas through a set of arguments and evidences logically. In addition, they also have to be critical in making their arguments towards the motion – topic which is being debated in a stage of debate. It can be said that debating is not only shaping learners’ speaking skill but also their critical thinking. Therefore, this program makes use of English debate as a media to sharpen learners’ English speaking skill.
