Abstract

The teaching profession has codes of ethics for teachers to be able to work optimally and professionally. This research aims to find out whether the English teacher implements the Indonesian teachers’ codes of ethics pertaining to the teacher-student relationship at SMPK S2 Surabaya and how the English teacher implements them. This research was conducted by applying the descriptive qualitative method. There were the English teacher and four students of Intra School Student Organization (OSIS) members of SMPK S2 Surabaya. The results of this research revealed that the English teacher totally implements the code of ethics in guiding students to become Pancasila human beings by teaching methods that aim to assess and improve students' ability to communicate with each other, help all students who need help regardless of their backgrounds, and be wise when advising and reprimanding them. The English teacher totally implements the code of ethics in demonstrating professional honesty by not misusing gifts from parents, and being flexible in implementing the curriculum according to the needs of students or school levels. The English teacher also totally implements the code of ethics in creating an effective learning environment by using group work methods, creating games, and utilizing technology in teaching and learning activities in the classroom.
