Abstract

Xylitol merupakan gula alamai yang mudah ditemukan pada tanaman. Xylitol biasanya digunakan sebagai bahan tambahan pada makanan karena rasanya yang lebih manis dari gula biasa. Xylitol merupakan zat yang aman untuk dikonsumsi karena memiliki anti-bakteri serta tidak merubah menjadi asam ketika masuk ke dalam mulut. hal ini menyebabkan xylitol banyak digunakan sebagai bahan tambahan pada pasta gigi. Xylitol dibuat dengan menggunakan xylan sebagai bahan baku utama, xylan akan dihidrolisis dengan air untuk menghasilkan xylose. selanjutnya, xylose akan direaksikan dengan hidrogen dalam reaktor hidrogenasi untuk membentuk xylitol. padatan xylitol akan didapatkan setelah melewati proses pengeringan dengan menggunakan spray dryer.
