Abstract
Companies need funding sources to expand their business. Funding can come from creditors or investors. Companies tend to choose funding sources that come from investors. This encourages the emergence of a return that must be provided by the company in the form of a cost of equity. The cost of equity is directly proportional to the risk. This study aims to analyze the effect of political connections and the effectiveness of the board of commissioners on the cost of equity with firm performance as a mediating variable.This research is quantitative research. This study uses quantitative data in the form of financial statements of manufacturing companies listed on the IDX for the 2017-2019 period, average SBI interest rates, and stock price index data. The data analysis technique used multiple linear regression and path analysis.The results of this study indicate that political connections have a negative effect on the cost of equity, the effectiveness of the board of commissioners has a negative effect on the cost of equity, firm performance does not mediate the relationship between political connections and the cost of equity, and firm performance does not mediate the relationship between board effectiveness and the cost of equity.
