Abstract

Literature brings interesting and unique subjects for people to learn and imagine. This can lead the literature into various things, including education. For this research, the researcher used the novel “Wonder” which tells about a deformed boy who enrolled in an inclusive school where he learned and adapted with normal children along with teachers, school staff, and the principal. The objectives of this research are to explore the challenges of inclusive education in the novel “Wonder” and to explore how the characters cope with the challenges. The researcher used a qualitative research design by employing literary analysis to achieve the objectives. The research found out that the challenges faced by Auggie are discrimination and bullying. Regarding the second objectives, it was found out that the characters manage to solve the challenges by preventing the bullying, and discrimination, helping the students to solve their problem, and embracing student’s unique diversity. Although this study is based on fictional events of a novel, readers are expected to understand that the school must solve and handle the obstacles which occur to disabled and normal students to make the school become a better and comfortable place for them.
