Abstract

The English Department of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FTTE) of Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya (WMCUS) provides the teacher candidates training programs – Micro Teaching and Teaching Practice. The investigator was interested in finding out the teacher candidates’ perceptions on the benefits of Micro Teaching towards Teaching Practice. This study aimed to reveal the perceptions of the teacher candidates of English Department of WMCUS towards Teaching Practice. The research design of this study was descriptive one. A set of questionnaire and semi-structured interview were employed. There were 25 teacher candidates in the academic year of 2011/2012. The study revealed that the teacher candidates had positive perceptions on the benefits of Micro Teaching. Indeed, the teacher candidates believed Micro Teaching benefited them in teaching real students. It could be concluded that Micro Teaching supported the teacher candidates to have confidence and teaching skill to teach real students.
