Abstract
Technology plays a vital role in our today’s life, especially during the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Because of this situation, both students and teachers have been forced to switch the educational methods from face-to-face interaction to online interaction, as well as to avoid the spread of Covid-19. Currently, teachers can use many teaching and learning media in delivering material to their students to keep up with the teaching and learning developments during a pandemic, both online learning and face-to-face learning. Some of them are, Google Meet, Zoom, YouTube, etc. YouTube is one of the social media that uses video as a learning platform and it was expected to increase students' interest to learn English by using this media. YouTube is very popular among teenagers, especially students. The result of this study revealed that “YouTube” is the most accessible media for both students and teachers. The students at SMA Dr. Soetomo Surabaya have positive opinions about the use of YouTube that can spark their interest in learning English lesson, especially during the pandemic situation. The English teacher used YouTube as a teaching medium in the online learning because YouTube is one of the social media that can improve interaction between students and teachers, they can participate in the comment section that add value to the lessons. This study aims to find out how YouTube improve students’ interest in learning English lesson during the pandemic.
