Abstract
Academic writings like journals and theses always begin with an abstract to provide a broad overview of the research. In reality, academic writers who come from the non-English department may have difficulty translating the abstract. The purpose of the study is to find out whether the abstracts of the Nursing Faculty students are accurately translated from Indonesian to English. The source of data of this study was gathered from thesis abstracts of Nursing students written in both English and Bahasa Indonesia. This study employed a qualitative design. In order to identify and classify the translation accuracy applied in the thesis abstract, Nababan's (2012) theory about translation accuracy is used. There are three kinds of accuracy criteria based on Nababan (2012). The first is a correct translation, followed by a less accurate translation, and finally an incorrect translation. The results of the data analysis show that there are 154 sentences found in 10 thesis abstracts of Nursing faculty students. Furthermore, there are 110 sentences that are translated accurately, 40 sentences that are translated less accurately, and 4 sentences that are not translated accurately. In conclusion, the translation of the thesis abstract of Nursing students is not entirely accurate. There are still some sentences that are translated by the students that are not in accordance with the criteria of assessment of the accuracy according to Nababan (2012). In line with the findings, the writer would like to give some suggestions to the university students who are currently conducting research so that they translate their thesis abstract carefully so that it does not contain any translation mistake such as the omission of words, the addition of words, and meaning distortion so that the abstract is easy to be read and understood. Furthermore, for future researchers, it is expected that they extent the research by researching the accuracy of thesis abstract translation in other faculties.
