Abstract
As an artistic work, literature contains beauty so that people could enjoy and interest in exploring it. Novel, as the primary sub-genre of literature, become famous because One of the common themes in novel is ‘own worst enemy’ which the writer found that it is related to the writer’s object of the study—a novel titled Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock written by Matthew Quick. This thesis aims to find out the preventive actions and complies it with ethical codes of conduct. In accordance with analyzing a novel, the writer uses literary criticism that one of the six approaches is Moral-Philosophical Approach to analyze the character, Herr Silverman, a Holocaust teacher, to get the morality value of his behaviors. To answer the problem statements, the writer uses M. H. Abrams’ Characterization Methods and NEA’s Code of Ethics: 1st and 2nd Principles. By using M. H. Abrams’s Characterization Method, the writer found out that Herr Silverman did several preventive actions toward Leonard Peacock suicidal attempt. Meanwhile, by using NEA’s Code of Ethics: 1st and 2nd Principles, the writer found out that Herr Silverman did followed some NEA’s principles of his preventive actions.
