Abstract

Vocabulary plays a very important and strong role in language acquisition. Students whose English is not their native language might meet difficulties in learning it without sufficient practices. However, English songs which pay several effects to young adults or students’ lives might be one of the beneficial sources in their vocabulary enrichment. Considering the students’ perception in this case is important since they are the main subjects of the learning. Therefore, the research was conducted to find out the perceptions of the students on the role of Popular English songs to their vocabulary enrichment. The research had 100 high school students from grade 10 and grade 11 as the participants. A questionnaire consisted of twenty close-ended questions and an interview were the instruments used by the researcher. The findings showed that the students give positive response and perceptions on the role of popular English songs in their vocabulary enrichment. They believe that popular English songs have a good impact on their vocabulary enrichment along with its pronunciation, understanding of meaning as well as the retention.
