Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia due to the effects of insulin secretion, or because of the workings of insulin or both. DM is also referred to as a clinical syndrome characterized by either hyperglycemia due to absolute or relative insulin deficiency, or a combination of insulin resistance and insufficiency of insulin secretion for compensation. The purpose of this study was to examine the pattern of insulin use in type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients including type, dose, route, interval and duration of use was associated with clinical data. The results of observational studies on 25 patients showed 17 patients (78%). Data on type 2 diabetes mellitus who received long acting insulin therapy by sex showed that the number of female patients was higher than the number of male patients. In this study, long acting insulin at most in combination with short acting insulin. The single most common long acting insulin is Lantus with a percentage of (4%), where as long acting combination insulin most commonly used is Lantus insulin (0-0-12U SC) and Novorapid insulin (3x8U SC) as many 7 patients with a percentage of (29%). The associated problems of coexisting disease are anemia and hypoglikemia.
