Abstract
The study under report was done to answer the following research questions: (1)why do the students in Malang use Bahasa Walik-an? And (2)what are the attitudes of language teachers toward the use of Bahasa Walik-an itself? This study uses Sociolinguistics: (a) Slang, (b) The theory of Bahasa Walik-an, and (c) Language Attitude to underlying this study. In analyzing the data, the writer uses recorded interviews which had been transcribed into phonetic symbols to elicit answers from thirty subjects (15 students of Brawijaya University and 15 students of Muhammadiah University) to find out their reasons in using Bahasa Walik-an, and a set of questionnaires which also had been trancribed into phonetic symbols to elicit answers from 15 language teachers (5 English,5 Indonesian, and 5 Javanese language teachers)to find out their attitudes toward the using of Bahasa Walik-an. The analysis results that their reasons in using Bahasa Walik-an are: (1)intimacy, (2)trend mark, (3)speech concealment, (4)make friends, (S)being accepted in a group, and (6)unique. Then the attitudes of language teachers toward its use are devided into: (1)agree, (2)disagree, and (3)agree and disagree. Finally, the writer concludes that the using of Bahasa Walik-an by the people in Malang have a positive attitude especially from the language teachers because it could enrich the varying of our language in Indonesia. From the findings, the writer suggests that this research might be an important contribution for other students to make another research concerning slang or the influence of foreign language toward Indonesian language
