Abstract

Nowadays, teachers or tutors teach vocabularies still using the old method, which is “teacher-centered”. This method is believed to be ineffective for teaching vocabulary because through this method, the students are forced and tensed to memorize some vocabularies in a word-list, without knowing the exact meaning of the words. An alternative way to help the students enrich their vocabularies are using vocabulary software, both vocabulary courseware and vocabulary testing software. This paper is aimed to develop interactive vocabulary testing software for enriching the vocabulary development of the second grade Senior High school students. The testing software itself was made with Adobe Captivate 5.5. The tested vocabularies are presented in context based on reading passages and the genre of the reading used is Analytical Exposition Text. The materials are carefully chosen so that the test takers will get benefit from taking the test. To make the vocabulary testing software well-developed, the evaluation from experts and three times of try-outs were done. Their comments and feedback were used to revise the product. Based on the result of the final try-out, the vocabulary testing software is considered as well developed, suitable and can be used as the individual learning for the second grade Senior High School Students.
