Abstract

Speaking is a very vital skill to learn for language learners, especially students. Despite the importance of speaking skill, many Indonesian students are still lacking in speaking skill. This difficulty in speaking English caused Indonesian students to not be able to express themselves properly in English. It is suggested that technology can be used in teaching speaking to students. One such technology that has the potential to be beneficial is YouTube. YouTube provides aural and visual presentation that can help students to improve their speaking skill. In this research, the researcher used Ted-Ed channel on YouTube as the source of videos. The aims of this research is to find out whether Ted-Ed videos is effective in improving eleventh grade students’ speaking skill. The research used a quantitative approach with quasi-experimental design. The result of this research shows that there is a significant difference in the speaking skill of students from the experimental class and control class. The experimental class shows a higher average post-test score of 89.1667 than that of the control class of 84.0714. The result of the T-Test used in this research also shows that Ted-Ed significantly improves eleventh grade students’ speaking skill.
