Abstract

The focus of this research is the communication role of women fishermen groups in today's era of communication and information technology. By using the case study method in the coastal area of Surabaya, namely Nambangan. The theory used is group communication and gender. Nambangan is a fishing village at the eastern end of Surabaya. Almost all of the population is fishing, with economic conditions that are still lacking. In this condition, it is women who play a role in supporting the family, educating children, eating, and other necessities of life. Women look for solutions by borrowing money from moneylenders and taking advantage of the savings and loan program at the Cooperative 64 Bahari. In this era of information and communication technology, the communication role of this women's fisherman group is still very important. With economic conditions that are still lacking, information and communication technology has not yet been widely used by Nambangan women. Under such conditions, group communication is very instrumental in disseminating information related to common issues, there are the Cooperative 64 Bahari group, the PKK arisan group and the recitation group. After all, a group is a collection of people who have a common goal and a common desire. Therefore, the role of this group of women fishermen is still very high in their daily life in Nambangan.
