Abstract

Reading is a skill that must be honed properly because reading provides many advantages. Mickulecky (2011) stated that reading can give benefits, such as: an increased awareness of the language, models for improving writing in English, resources for improving vocabulary, and give the skills needed for success in academic studies. Therefore, it is better to develop students’ reading skills since young. In the end, the goal of reading is comprehension, which is to make sense what is written. Reading comprehension question, which can be found in textbook, can help students to develop reading comprehension. To make a framework for reading comprehension questions, it is better to use a taxonomy. Barrett’s Taxonomy is used to classify the reading comprehension questions found in the book. Barrett’s Taxonomy has 5 levels: 1.) Literal, 2.) Reorganization, 3.) Inferential, 4.) Evaluation, and 5.) Appreciation. The result of this study is through all the reading comprehension questions analyzed, with the number of reading comprehension questions totaling 29 numbers, the result is 100% in the Literal level of Barrett’s Taxonomy. In conclusion, this result is less than ideal because all the questions found is in the Literal level of Barrett’s taxonomy while Reorganization, Inferential, Evaluation and Appreciation are not included in this book.
