Abstract
This research aimed to find out the reading strategies employed by students of grade 9 to comprehend the reading passages. The research method was a survey with questionnaires. The total number of participants was 39 students. The result shows that the participants employed reading strategies when reading English passages. In general, there were three types of strategies that the students employed: global reading strategy, problem-solving reading strategy, and support reading strategy. The students with global reading strategy focusing on activities before the reading gained the highest score 3.7, while problem-solving strategy and supporting reading strategy gained 3.6 and 3.4. Some suggestions for the further research are presented.
