Abstract

Vocabulary is one of the components of language. However, some of teachers still have difficulties in teaching vocabulary. The aims of this study are to find out the effect of using short videos in teaching vocabulary, and what the several possibilities of the result. The participants were 17 students, in a private school in Surabaya. The type of this research is quantitative research. The instruments used in this research were short videos, pre-test, and post-test. The research findings showed that short videos improved students’ vocabulary mastery. It can be seen from the result of the post-test was higher than pre-test. The mean of all pre-test scores was 56,76, while the post-test was 80,00. Also, there are some reasons that affect the result; the students have a chance to explore information, the students might cheat in doing pre-test or post-test, the material is too easy, the problem sheet of pre-test and post-test are too easy. Therefore, based on the result, the researcher gives some suggestions for teachers and students.
