Abstract

Cancer patients experienced poor sleep quality due to side effects of treatment therapy, to improve sleep quality is given Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT) therapy. SEFT therapy is complementary therapy that can improved sleep quality. This study aims to explained the effect of SEFT therapy on sleep quality in cancer patients. The research design used pre-experimental One Group Pre-Post Test. The population was 86 cancer patients at Puskesmas Kedungdoro and Puskesmas Pacar Keling Surabaya. The sample was 22 cancer patients according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Sampling used purposive sampling technique. The instruments used Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and Standard Operational Procedures. This study has been normality test and result is normal distribution. Hypothesis test used paired t-test. The results of the mean pre post test sleep quality is 4.773, followed by paired t-test p = 0.000 α < (0.05). The results effect of SEFT therapy on sleep quality in cancer patients. SEFT can stimulate the pituitary and hypothalamus which causes a decrease in the hormones cortisol, norepinephrine, serotonin. So that it affects the increase in the hormone melatonin, then there is an increase in the quality of sleep.
