Abstract

One of the four language skills that should be mastered by students is writing. In academic activities, writing is part of students’ life. Students sometimes think that writing is difficult and quite often they make mistakes in their writing. Harjanto (2014) stated that EFL graduate students still experienced difficulties in grammar rules, idea development, referencing skills, and rhetoric. Teachers’ written feedback was claimed to help students to reduce the level of mistakes and help students write better. The objective of this study is to find out the students’ perception on teachers’ written feedback. This study is a qualitative survey research. The instruments used in this research were questionnaire and interview. The subjects of this study were 40 students who passed Writing A Course in the academic year 2019/2020. All of the students experienced in receiving teachers’ written feedback. The results of this study show that 91.7% of the students had positive perception on the types of teachers’ written feedback. Eighty-eight-point-three percent of the students had positive perception on the teachers’ written feedback strategies. The students (91.75%) comprehended the written feedbacks. Eighty-eight-point-seven percent of the students also thought that teachers’ written feedback were useful. The researcher concludes that the students perceived the teachers’ written feedback positively. Teachers’ written feedbacks helped students to write and the way the teacher provided the feedbacks let the students know their mistakes.
