Abstract

This study aimed to find and describe the factors that cause language anxiety among EFL students in the English speaking classroom through online learning conducting using video conference application such as Zoom. The total number of the research participant were 16 students of English Department. The data were collected using interviews. The findings described three factors that cause language anxiety among the EFL students. The first factor was direct interaction with the lecturer, which occurred in a form of a question and answer session. It also happened when the students have their exam, which done orally through direct interaction using video conference. The second factor was low self-confidence, which indicated that the students who lack of speaking English tend to have lower self-confidence than the ones who better at speaking English. Several students believed that lack of grammar and vocabulary understanding were reasons behind their low self-esteem. The last factor was limited exposure to English related to the students’ lack of opportunityto practice and experience speaking English, which affected their ability.
