Abstract

"Formulation of piroxicam liquisolid tablet using glycerin as the non volatile solvent" has been studied. In this research, used piroxicam as the active material which is a poten antiinflamation medicine which specialty was as the antipiretic analgesic. It is a poorly soluble, highly permeable drug and the rate of its oral absorption is often controlled by the dissolution rate in the gastrointestinal. There are several technique to enhance the dissolution of piroxicam and one of them by using liquisolid technique. Glycerin was one of the example of non volatile solvent used in this research. Piroxicam was dispersed into glycerin became a liquid suspension then being changed into dry, non adherent, free flowing powder and ready to comprised by adding aerosil as the coating material, and A vicel PH 102 as the carrier material. Based on the purpose, the research was conducted to observe the influence of glycerin adding toward the piroxicam accelerate dissolution tablet. Made of four different formulas with different concentration of piroxicam in the liquid medication. Formula A was made as the controlling medicine so there was not glycerin adding, Formula B contained 30% piroxicam in the liquid medication, Formula C contained 40% piroxicam in the liquid medication and Formula D contained 50% piroxicam in the liquid medication. These tablets were made by direct compression method and the in vitro releasing was done. Based on the ED60 percentage result, Formula D had the biggest ED6o percentage with 90.52% releasing medicine after 45 minutes and the ED6o percentage was 69.7% while formula A had the smaller ED6o percentage than formula D since it didn't contain glycerin. The result showed that glycerin could raise the piroxicam dissolution which is a poorly water soluble drug.
