Abstract

A decade ago, teachers only used paper-based assessment for daily test, weekly test and even final examination. There were no other learning tools that could help teacher accesses students more efficiently. Now people have used the Internet for many purposes, such as educational and entertainment. They use the Internet as an online platform for everyone to learn and find out everything that they want to know, locally or globally. It has also tremendously helped many teachers to learn a number of new teaching methods and find new learning materials for their students. In this modern era, there are some online platforms that can be used for educational purposes. One of the most popular learning management systems nowadays is Schoology. By using Schoology, teachers can easily share the materials before or after the classes and they also can effectively use the platform as a communication tool between the teachers and students. The study is a case study. The researcher would like to know the perceptions of the Morphology and Syntax Class A students about the online assessment using Schoology. The information or data were collected using questionnaire and interview. The respondents were 15 students of Morphology and Syntax group A whose assessment is done by using Schoology throughout the semester in academic year 2019-2020. The result of the study showed that the majority of the students have positive responses toward the online assessment using Schoology. The most of the students agreed that time limit in every online assessment challenged them to think fast in limited time. The result also showed that the most of the students felt convenient to do the online assessment off the class hour. Furthermore, the data showed that the deadline in every assessment encouraged them to have a responsibility to do their assessment before the deadline. The combination between the offline teaching or face-to-face and the online teaching using Schoology benefited the students to understand the materials better.
