Abstract

Abstract: Atherosclerosis is a chronic, active and progressive inflammatory disease of the arterial wall controlled by native and adaptive immune responses (René, et al 2010). Continuous exposure of oxidizedLDL causes macrophages activated more and produces pro-inflammatory cytokines and proteases. The pro-inflammatory cytokines lead to the differentiation of naiveT cells tend to become pro-inflammatory effect ort cells such as Th1, Th2 and Th17 (T helper) than to counter-inflammatory Tregulator cells. The aim of this study was to determine the role of the ethanol extract of Andrographispaniculata in slowing the inflammatory reaction by increasing the ratio of Treg/ Th17 cells and increasing the amount of expression of counter-inflammatory cytokines (IL-10 and TGF β) than pro- inflammatory cytokines (IL-6 and IL-17) in Sprague DawleyratswithAtherosclerosisDiet and Smoke induction.Thisstudy uses a posttest experimental designcontrolstudy. Samples taken at random. The research was conducted in vivo to demonstratethe effect of ethanol extract of Andrographispaniculata in a variety of dosage on theexpression of IL-6, IL-17, IL-10, TGF-β and theratio of Treg/Th17 cells, in Sprague Dawleyrats with Atherosclerosis Diet and Smoke induction. The results showed that ethanol extract of Andrographispaniculata at a dose of 1.2 mg/kg in Sprague Dawleyrats with Atherosclerosis Diet and Smoke induction, take effect on IL-17, and the ratio of Treg/Th17 cells (p <0.05). Expression of IL-17 was significantly higher in the group of ethanol extract of Andrographispaniculata at a dose of 1.2 mg/kg compared to the negative control. Based on the above data, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of Andrographis paniculata can reduce chronic inflammation and therisk of atherosclerosis in the blood vessels of Sprague Dawleyrats with Atherosclerosis Diet andSmoke induction Keywords: Andrographispaniculata
