Abstract

N'-(4-hydroxybenzylidene)-4-hydroxybenzohydrazide compound is a compound obtained from a 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde nucleophilic addition reaction with 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde. This study aims to measure the antioxidant activity of N'-(4-Hydroxybenzylidene)-4-Hydroxybenzohidrazide. Compound synthesis of N'-(4-hydroxybenzylidene) -4-hydroxylbenzohydrazide was conducted using microwave irradiation method. The purity test of the compound was performed by organoleptic observation, yield calculation, thin layer chromatography and melting point measurement. The melting point of the compound N'-(4-Hydroxybenzylidine-4-Hydroxybenzohidrazide was 260,7 – 261,6 ֯C. The structure of the N'-(4-Hydroxybenziliden)-4-Hydroxybenzohidrazide compound was determined based on the results of infrared spectrophotometer analysis. Antioxidant test was done using quantitative method of DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-pikrylhydrazyl) spectrophotometry with λ max observation at 519, 5 nm. The reference compound used in antioxidant test was vitamin C 1000 ppm and nipagin M and a 0.1 mM DPPH solution was used as a control. The results of antioxidant test by DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-pikrylhydrazil) method showed that N'- (4-hydroxybenzyliden) -4-hydroxybenzohydrazide had IC50 value 34. 85 ppm and had stronger value of antioxidant activity,Vitamin C and Nipagin IC50 value were 0. 32 ppm and 0. 21 ppm.
